About us

“All my hurts my garden spade can heal” - Ralph Waldo Emerson 1847

About Deborah Coulson, the Founder.

Deborah Coulson created the Nairobi Physic Garden in Kenya in 2017; The first of its kind in Kenya and probably East Africa. The garden is dedicated to spreading awareness of healing plants, their properties, and how to use them. Thirty years ago Deborah did a Diploma in Landscape Design at the Inchbald School of Garden Design in London and became a qualified Landscape Designer. She then gradually became interested in medicinal plants, which spurred her to go to India and do Ayurveda training. Deborah has also studied Herbalism at the Scottish School of Herbal Medicine., and a Diploma course at the Dilston Physic Garden in Northumberland, UK. She is also an Advanced Flower Essence Practitioner, where she used to make and sell flower essences, made from flowers in the garden.

In the past, she has studied with many herbalists and shamanic herbal practitioners, including Penelope Ody, Dilston Physic Garden, Chelsea Physic Garden, London School of Garden Design, Julie Bruton Seal, and Ayurveda in India. On the more esoteric side, she has studied with Eliot Cowan, Ian White, Ross Heaven, Pam Montgomery and others.

Deborah is a Plant Whisperer.

How it started…

The dream garden had to start somewhere! A series of concentric circles were built. These gardens in the shape of circles are called Mandala. Deborah designs her gardens according to Sacred Geometry..

The next stage..

We completed the inner beds before radiating outwards.

The final result!

This is what the garden looked like before the plants went wild.
